Do you have cans of house paint in your basement?

It’s time to go through those old cans and see which colours are even still relevant for your home. (If you prefer video, scroll to the bottom of this post.)

Questions to ask yourself:

• How old is a can of paint?
• Are any of the cans rusty?
• Do you know what the colour is inside?
• Is this still a relevant colour for your home?

For cans that no longer serve a purpose for you, it’s time to let them go. For colours still relevant to your home, those you could keep for touch up purposes, but that is up to you.

It’s possible you have paint supplies stored near your cans of paint, so now is a great time to also evaluate the usefulness of those supplies. Are there brushes that are stiff and useless? They can go.

Paint is a chemical, so it’s not something that can just be tossed in your garbage bin. Please be kind to our Earth and discard paint in a earth-friendly manner.  Most landfill sights offer paint and chemical disposal or contact your local paint store and ask them if they have an old paint disposal program.
