Towels

Have you ever thought about how many towels you need in your home? I did a little research and realized our home needed a towel reduction. (Scroll to the bottom of this post if you prefer to watch video.)

Here’s a recommendation for number of towels in a household. Remember this is a guideline. No one can tell you how many towels your household needs.

  • Each person in your home needs two towels and washcloths.
  • An extra one towel per guest.
  • Two hand towels for the bathroom.
  • Two to four tea towels for the kitchen.
  • Two hand towels for the kitchen.
  • If you are swimming or beach people, each person in the home needs a designated swim towel.

Using this as a guide, or using one you create for yourself, and go through the towels in your home.

Create your keep, donate, and garbage piles. If you have any towels that are smelly or mildewy they need to be discarded in the garbage, not donated. Towels that are frayed but are still in decent condition can be donated.

I did a little research on repurposing old towels, there are some neat ideas out there, especially if you’re handy with a sewing machine. Pinterest is a great place to get ideas. I found things like make a pet bed, a bath pouf, a beach bag, reusable / washable Swiffer mop, baby bibs.

I welcome your ideas, thoughts, and questions in the comments below.
